"Carol,This is Boris our soon to be 10 year old puppy. He is very special to us, we bred him ourselves and lost his mum 3 years ago. He was struck down by the wretched CDRM last summer (2007) but continued to be fairly mobile until February 08. He has always loved his almost daily 3 - 4 mile walks around the lanes and paths where we live. With increasing disability he was unable to make a meaningful walk without falling and twisting into a big heap. The thought of having a very depressed dog stuck in the house was not something we could contemplate. Then we found your carts. Easy to order, very quick delivery, very clear assembly and fitting instructions. Boris was rather apprehensive as i started assembling this weird contraption in front of him and even more confused when he was put in it !!! Once round the garden being encouraged was enough for him and he RAN (yes ran) to the back door, getting in the house without hitting anything and then tried to get into his basket with cart still attached!! After a few tentative trips round our local recreation park he was more used to the cart but bored so we set off across the public footpaths. Now 3 weeks later we are doing walks we haven't been able to do for 6 months. Boris is once again happy and alert and able to enjoy his walks and loves the attention he gets from fellow walkers. I have had several people come up to me and say that if only they had known about these carts when their dogs were disabled. I would recommend these carts to anyone who has a dog with walking difficulties, it has given back Boris his walks and his life." John, Ann, Robert and Chris Holmes
" It took [Blackie] about a week to get used to [her Doggon' Wheels] but now she loves to go out with our other dogs. She has had arthritis in her back legs since she was about 6months old but it has now spread to her spine (She is now about 11 yrs old) Prior to getting the wheels she was confined to the back garden or a slow crawl round the cul-de-sac, which resulted in her scraping her back paws due to 'knuckling'. Now she can walk and explore all the exciting smells and, even though she drags one leg, she can now get some limited movement in both back legs, thus maintaining some muscle tone. This has got to be better than going to the Vets for the big needle. Thank you for giving Blackie a new lease of life." Bob Bates
| "Hi Carol I just wanted to tell you how very pleased we are with Ringo's wheels. Although we had been aware for some months that Ringo was suffering from CDRM it was only when he completely lost the use one hind leg that he began to suffer and become very depressed. This rapid decline progressed much quicker than we had been prepared for (virtually overnight) and he really was in quite bad way, to the extent that the vet had advised euthanasia. I am so glad that I did not take the professional advice and insisted that we give the wheels a try before making that final decision. Initially it took him a few days to regain his confidence after which progress has been quite amazing to such an extent that he is currently able to get around the house, can go out into the garden and can take short walks completely unaided, although the wheels are still necessary for longer walks as he has a tendency to roll his feet which causes damage when walking long distances on hard surfaces. Last week we had a day out on the beach at North Norfolk and walking on soft sand Ringo managed a whole day without his wheels and even had a paddle in the sea. I am quite sure that without the wheels none of this would have been possible. I find it quite amazing that our vet did not have any experience of this facility and would have been quite happy to put Ringo to sleep. Ringo once again has a good quality of life and is back to his old self and takes a sharp interest in everything that's going on and once again barks at all the other dogs and generally makes his presence known. Many thanks for your help." Derek Edwards | ||
"Sam was getting on well using his wheels. We had a lovely time away for the weekend with him on the beach. It was really nice to see him running around and we had to slow him down so he didn't injure himself. He made lots of friends (people and dogs) and we passed on your details to a couple with a big GSD x Rottie we met at the beach. The man came running down the beach with a pen and paper and instructions from his wife to get details. I hope you have been able to help if they contacted you. Will keep you updated with his progress. Many thanks for giving us the chance to see him play again." Regards,
"It took Ricky all of 3 days to realise that he would be getting back out with his friends! He hasn't looked back. He doesn't realise that steps need a little planning, so we have to think ahead and anticipate his moves. Trees trunks have a habit of getting in his way, as do human ankles. New doggy friends have been curious at first, not sure whether he's animal or mineral. However as soon as they've found the wagging tail, they've been reassured, and he's just been part of the clan. It has been hilarious watching him trying to run with the local puppies, or chase after rabbits. Bless him, the coordination with his back legs has a habit of going up the creek, or he tries to trip himself up.Being able to exercise has meant that he has regained some strength in his back legs, and he can now get himself up - provided he is on a non-slip surface, and he can probably manage about 200 yards unaided before his back legs collapse. This has been an unexpected bonus. I can honestly say that his 'wheels, stabilisers, scooter, walking frame, whizzer, pushchair, cart, bike, bus' have been a Godsend. We've been on buses, trains, in a cable car, he's walked on Hadrian's Wall, there is no stopping us. I'm not shy about having him in the wheels . I'm more than happy for folk to see that he still enjoys life, despite his poor back legs. Thank you, With best wishes," Elizabeth Joyes
"Hi Carol,Darcy is getting on well with her wheelchair. We promised to send some pictures. We took them when she was out in the snow this morning. It’s been just over 3 weeks now, and her wheelchair has given her a new lease of life. We are gradually increasing the distance, but she took to it straight away. We have become the talk of the village! We passed on your details to a woman we met yesterday morning who has a border collie with failing hips. Don’t know if she’ll be in contact, but you never know!" Michael & Claire Enticott
